Three children from SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka, recently won the first, second and third place awards at the all island Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System Championship, a media statement said.
The international competition provides children with a platform to demonstrate their mathematical talents, it also enhances their concentration capabilities, creativity, listening skills and helps them to develop a photographic memory.
The competition is designed to bring out the hidden potential in children of all ages. At this year’s event, the three young 7-year-old champions from SOS truly shone, with Ranjini emerging as the winner and national champion, Lalitha winning 2nd place and Nandini securing 3rd place.
A total of 100 children from all districts across Sri Lanka participated in the competition and were given eight minutes to finish 150 questions, which were marked by an eminent panel of teachers.
