Three Sri Lankans were among those reported missing from a Comorian-flagged oil tanker, the ‘Prestige Falcon’ which was capsized off the coast of Oman on Tuesday (16).
The vessel, carrying sixteen crew members including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans, capsized southeast of Ras Madrakah, the Maritime Security Centre (MSC) of Oman reported.
The ship is still submerged and inverted, according to the MSC. It said that it was still unknown if the ship had stabilized or if there had been any confirmed oil leaks into the ocean.
Oman had provided a warship and an air asset, whilst India had deployed the warship INS Teg, P81, as part of search efforts.
The naval forces of Oman and India are cooperating despite the inclement weather.
There are currently no survivors. Search and rescue efforts are presently in progress.
