The ninth Fairway Galle Literary Festival opened on a festive note on the evening of January 24. To a host of participants, organizers and sponsors. Internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi band Chirkutt provided the night’s entertainment with their rhythmic beats and ethnic melodies. “Nine years ago, we started with a few authours and it was a great success and now it’s metamorphosed into an arts festival rather than a literary festival. We have international and local authors and we are very happy to have them,” explains festival founder Geoffrey Dobbs.
Packed with interactive sessions by authors, performers and artists for adults and children alike, the streets of the historic Galle Fort are a buzz of activity and colour as hordes of curious literature lovers, art enthusiasts and wanderlust seekers flock towards the Fort over the next two days. Festival curator Jill Macdonald hopes that festival goers enjoyed the line-up of the event. “This is an arts festival and we have all kinds of different aspects of the arts. We’re really looking forward to it and I hope you enjoy the festival,” she said.
