The creator of the brand La’Sari Nilanka Silva showcased her vibrantly coloured pieces yesterday at Park Street Mews.
Some uncertainty has however been hovering around her brand. “People think I make only sarees,” she says of the unfortunate tangle which springs from the name of her brand. ‘La’Sari’ is in fact a “Pali-Sanskrit” word translating to mean ‘a thing of beauty’ she shares.
Graduating in 1995 with a degree in fashion from the Institute of Fashion Design, she went on a break, she says. Returning to her passion around five years ago, diversity has been the essence of the brand and Nilanka has five segments lined-up to show for it.
