Prestantia Music School in Moratuwa is organising a a Christmas sing- along concert, called "Prestantia School of Music presents, 'Prestars Christmas Sing - a - long” on December 14 at the Parish Hall of the Holy Emmanuel Church Moratuwa at 6 p.m.
The concert aims to raise funds for the choir to take part at the World Choir Games in Flanders, Belgium in July 2020.
In 2017, the children’s choir of Prestantia Music School in Moratuwa, trained by Dr. Priyeshni Peiris-Perera, became the runners up at the Asia Pacific Choir Games.
The Junior choir was established in 2017, and within the span of a few months proved themselves by securing a gold medal.
There will also be guest performances by Rukshan Perera, Melantha Perera and Lankika Perera, as well as performances by Prestantia Chorale and Prestantia Junior Choir.
“Without a doubt the kids mesmerized the international panel of judges from Russia, South Africa who began videotaping the performance from the very first song,” Dr. Priyeshni recalls the Asia Pacific Choir Games in 2017.
They had also gotten a direct walkover to the Gran Prix of National rounds, but decided to not compete in that since they hadn’t prepared. Instead of competing in the champions rounds, they were only bested by Alle Perusa children's choir from Russia, topping all the reputed children's choirs in Colombo and the rest of the world.
“I reminisce with such joy - the day when the Presta children set foot on stage for the first time at the Lionel Wendt theatre. The kids were excited but we believed that everything would work well with God's grace. It definitely worked that way!” says Dr. Priyeshni about where it all started for them.
The children of the choir are extremely excited and looking forward to next year's competition, with 11 year old Chethaitwa Wijetunge saying, “The World Choir Games in Flanders in 2020 will be an incredible way for us to get to know other cultures, and choirs. It will of course be a massive challenge, the biggest yet but I feel that we’re ready to take on the world!”
