‘Strings of Harmony’ – a Santoor Jugalbandi by Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and his son Pandit Rahul Sharma was presented at the BMICH yesterday August 15 to mark the 73rd Independence Day of India.
The Santoor – a folk instrument owes its classical status to Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, according to the concert flier. With his creative genius, he has been responsible for popularising it and bringing it to a new generation of music lovers.
Rahul Sharma, trained by his father, has experimented with the Santoor and been able to carve a niche for himself in successfully fusing the classical and contemporary.
His bestselling album Namaste released in 2011 features saxophonist Kenny G and the voice of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan.
