Eleven suspects including two Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) members have been arrested over election violence and complaints of law violations.
The police spokesman noted that 10 incidents of violence and 14 complaints of law violations have been received so far in the run-up to the presidential election.
The Vice-Chairman of the Walallawita PS had been arrested for illegally distributing posters in a vehicle, before being released on bail, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Further, a Panduwasnuwara PS member had been arrested yesterday (Oct 17) for levelling threats and attacking a residence, the spokesman added. He is due to be produced before court today.
Meanwhile, a Pelmadulla PS member has been remanded on orders of the Pelmadulla Magistrate's court until October 28 for attacking supporters of a political party, while they had been returning on a bus.
