Naval personnel in the Northern Naval Command and Sri Lanka Coast Guard had found 153.1 kg of Kerala cannabis floating in the seas north of Point Pedro yesterday, Navy said.
The consignment of cannabis had been packed into 60 parcels and it is suspected that the consignment had been dumped at sea with the intention of smuggling it into the country later. The stock of cannabis is handed over to Kankesanthurai Police for onward legal action.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
