Seventeen Indian fishermen were arrested with the support of Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard for engaging in poaching activities in the northern territorial waters off Nagar Kovil today evening, Navy said.
During ususal routine patrolling, Lankan Navy vessels detected two Indian fishing trawlers 16.8 nm and 14.6 nm off respectively, engaged in bottom trawling were apprehended. The arrested fishermen along with their fishing trawler and fishing gears were handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward legal action.
