Nineteen incidents of post-election violence have been recorded so far, displaying a positive drop compared to 49 incidents in 2015, police said today (Nov 22).
“Thirteen cases were based on attacks and causing injury,” Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told a news conference this afternoon.
He said other incidents were based on damages to property and threatening of individuals.
SSP Gunasekara noted that 13 suspects have been arrested over these complaints. “Further investigations are underway to apprehend more suspects,” he stressed.
The spokesman warned that strict action would be taken, according to orders issued by the Defence Secretary against those who disrupt peace, in the period after the poll.
Police statistics show that the highest number of violence-related incidents were reported from the Pallama area in Puttalam.
