Nineteen Ruhuna University students accused of ragging a Second Year student have been granted bail by the Matara High Court today (Nov 22).
Matara High Court judge Ajith Masinghe ordered each of the suspects to be released on a cash bail of Rs 2500 and two surety bails worth Rs 500,000.
The judge imposed a condition that the parents or the close relatives of each student should be named as sureties, while releasing the defendants on bail
A travel ban was also imposed on the students in addition to barring them from entering the hostel of the Ruhuna University.
Four charges were filed against the suspects for violating the Penal Code and the Ragging Act.
