A 30-year old suspect was arrested in Kadawatha yesterday (Dec 30) for allegedly demanding a ransom worth Rs 3 million while levelling death threats at a resident in Kiribathgoda.
Police officials had arrested the suspect following a complaint lodged by the victim who claimed that the suspect had demanded a sum of Rs 3 million as ransom through telephone calls made from various phone numbers.
According to the complaint, the suspect had threatened to harass the family members of the victim if the ransom was not paid.
The suspect who has been identified as a resident of Kadawatha by the name of Tyrone Fernando will be produced before the Mahara Magistrates Court today.
He will also be produced before the Kiribathgoda police for further investigations.
