Around 80 Air Force personnel are to be conferred with special medals by President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday (Nov 11), a gazette issued by the Presidential Secretariat read.
According to the gazette, 57 officers will receive the 'Rana Sura Padakkama' (Combat Excellence Medal) in recognition of their distinguished conduct in the face of the enemy.
In addition, 15 personnel will be conferred the 'Rana Wickrama Padakkama' (Combat Gallantry Medal) awarded to personnel for displaying individual acts of bravery in a battlefield.
Five Air Force officers will be conferred the 'Weerodara Vibhushanaya' (Decoration of Heroism) medal for showing non-military but courageous conduct in a voluntary manner.
Further, four personnel will receive the 'Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya' (Decoration of Heroic Gallantry) medal to recognise their courageous behaviour of military nature.
