The Election Commission was notified by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday that it is prepared to provide funds as required for the impending presidential election, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
A total of 10 billion rupees have been set aside for elections in 2024, and since the government is practicing tight financial management, there is no reason why those funds cannot be provided.
The Minister made note of the relevant officials’ statements, stating that they are prepared to cover the costs of printing, shipping, and security and can provide the necessary funds in accordance with the specifications.
The Election Commission conducted a meeting yesterday (18) with the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Mahinda Siriwardena, and other senior officials to discuss several matters, one of which being the distribution of funds for the upcoming presidential election.
