All state-owned vehicles will need to be registered in a data base under the Finance Ministry before December 31, according to a directive issued by the Treasury.
The move comes following revelations that the Government lacks a proper recording system on the state-owned vehicles.
Treasury Secretary, Mahinda Siriwardana in a circular issued this week has directed that all vehicles in possession of the state as of September 1, should be registered with the Comptroller General’s office under a programme to have a centralized comprehensive data base under a Non- Finance Asset Management System (NFAMS).
The System will facilitate each public sector institution to keep records of their assets inventory in a web-based platform and generate reports required for their asset management.
Under the first phase of the implementation of the system, registration of vehicles of government agencies, public enterprises, provincial councils and Local Government institutions will be launched from September 1.
