Two persons were killed and 29 others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims crashed into a parked container truck at Ambanpola in the early hours of this morning (10).
The bus had been traveling from Padeniya to Anuradhapura when it crashed into the container truck parked on the side of the road near the Ambanpola Madya Maha Vidyalaya along the Padeniya-Anuradhapura Road.
Two persons aged 32 and 71 died at the scene. They have been identified as residents of Thalawa. A further 29 persons sustained injuries. Six females and one male who were injured in the accident were admitted to the Ambanpola Hospital while 18 females and four males were admitted to the Galgamuwa Hospital.
Ambanpola Police are conducting further investigations.
This is the second deadly bus crash in a matter of hours. At least 10 persons were killed and about 40 others hospitalised last evening after a bus went off the Kotalitya Bridge in Manampitiya and fell into a branch of the Mahaweli River below.
