Another elephant that has sustained a gunshot injury and currently around the Kandalama tank is facing a food shortage, after Wildlife officials warned the public not get close to provide food.
The elephant known among the public as ‘Kandalame Hedakaraya’ had been around the tank area for weeks.
The public stepped in earlier to provide food for the injured elephant, but eventually the Wildlife Department warned the public not get close to the elephant as it may be dangerous.
As a result , the public who brought food earlier have reduced and only a few were turning up to provide food.
In addition a Police guard too has been deployed.
Villagers have called the Wildlife Department to intervene and resolve the food issue as well as provide necessary treatment.

We could have saved Bathiya, if the Wildlife Dept took prompt action. Govt is doing nothing to resolve the issue.
