Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena has cut short an official visit to the US and returned to Sri Lanka today to take part in the vote of the no confidence motion against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
Minister Gunawardena on his return said that soon after he landed in Washington DC, he was informed by the Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in the US that he had been requested by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to return to the country to take part in the voting.
He was due to attend a workshop organized by the World Bank.
Minister Gunawardena told reporters he had returned to vote against the motion and show his gratitude to the Speaker who has served the country in many ways.
Meanwhile all government MPs have been told to be present in Parliament tomorrow during the vote of the no confidence motion due to take place in the evening.
