A 102-year-old woman in Galle has passed away from COVID-19, Consultant Judicial Medical Officer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ruhuna, Dr U.C.P. Perera said.
The woman had passed away at her home on Saturday and her PCR test results arrived last morning, confirming that she had been infected with COVID-19 at the time of death.
Doctors stated the woman could be the oldest person in the country confirmed to have died from COVID-19 so far.
The victim's body was cremated last evening.
