Another two deaths were reported today increasing the number of COVID-19 deaths to 593, the Government Information Department said.
The deceased is a 70 year old male resident in Dehiwela. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments at Colombo South Teaching Hospital and transferred to National Institute of Infectious Diseases where he died on April 08. The cause of death is mentioned as blood poisoning shock, high blood pressure and COVID Pneumonia.
The deceased is a 79 year old female resident in Kondavil. She died on April 08 while undergoing treatments at Teaching Hospital Jaffna. The cause of death is mentioned as chronic kidney disease exacerbated due to COVID, blood poisoning, COVID Pneumonia, urinary tract infection and diabetes.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
