Cabinet has granted approval to a proposal by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry to apply for membership of BRICS organization and the new development bank to be established under it.
The approval came after considering the report of an officer’s committee which looked into the advantages and disadvantages of joining the BRICs group as well accessing to the new development bank scheduled to be established under the BRICS organization.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization started by Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa in 2009.
Several other countries have since joined the group including Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.
