Father Cyril Gamini Fernando, a prominent Catholic Priest who has publicly criticized the failure to conclude investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks has filed a fundamental rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court seeking an injunction order preventing him from being arrested by the police.
The petition has been filed after the Criminal Investigations Department had asked the priest to call over to record a statement over the complaint lodged by Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General Suresh Sallay.
Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini recently taking part in an online discussion had made a statement that the state intelligence units had provided financial and other assistance to Zahran Hashim, who reportedly led the suicide bombers killing himself as well.
Maj Gen Sallay denying the claim had lodged the complaint.
However, the same allegation has been made several times earlier at various forums including in parliament.
The Priest had asked for week’s period to call over at the CID to make the statement.
