Konalingam Karunanandarasa, Chairman of the Valvettithurai City Council has died from COVID-19 while being treated at the Point Pedro hospital in Jaffna, police said.
The Council Chairman who was 76 years old at the time of his death, was admitted to hospital on Monday (9).
According to area health officials, all his close contacts including fellow council members and employees of the council have undergone PCR and antigen tests.
Late Mr. Karunanandarasa contested and won the last local government election on behalf of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and was elected as the party's City Council Chairman.
