Students of Colombo University have written to President Rajapaksa expressing their displeasure over the appointment of Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera as the new Chancellor of the University.
In a joint letter, unions representing all faculties of the Colombo University said the position of a Chancellor is the most respected position and the symbol of the University.
“The Chancellor post should not be a part of a political agenda or be a political appointment. Both the impartiality and esteem of the University is tarnished with an appointment of this nature,” the letter said.
