The Cabinet of Ministers granted the approval to build a common memorial monument in Colombo for those who were killed during the various conflicts the country witnessed in the past.
Announcing Cabinet decisions today, Cabinet Spokesperson Bandula Gunawardane said that the proposal was made by President Ranil Wickramasinghe to build a monument in Colombo in memorial for all those civilians and armed forces who died due to the civil unrest and conflict situations since the Independence in 1948.
The proposal was approved by the Cabinet on Monday(22).
“This decision was taken to promote peace and justice among all citizens of the country and to prevent racial, and ethnic conflicts in future,” the Cabinet Spokesperson stressed.
