Traders' associations in Dambulla town have collectively agreed to shut down all shops in Dambulla town from August 19 to 31 in a bid to minimise the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
The decision was taken due to a significant rise in COVID cases in the Dambulla area, which has seen beds in the COVID wards at the Dambulla Hospital and nearby intermediate care centres quickly filling up.
However, the Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre will remain open and no decision has been made to close it down so far. The centre functions as one of the main hubs in the island where vegetables are distributed.
