The decision on appointing civil members to the Constitutional Council is to be taken today.
The constitutional council is to meet today to decide on civil members to the council. The meeting would be chaired by the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abewardena.
The Constitutional council was established by the 21 Amendment to the constitution.
The 10 member constitutional council has three civil members.
Speaker Abeywardena has said that applications were recently called for the appointment of civil members. He added that 120 applications have been received.
The names of the selected persons would be tabled in the parliament for approval and afterwards the President would appoint them to the Constitutional Council.
