A ‘Red’ notice for possible power outages has been issued to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) due to default in payment of Rs. 339 million in arrears to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), a responsible official of the NHSL said.
He stressed that owing to the failure to settle arrears for five months, the NHSL is on the edge of disruption of the hospital's operations that would further leave the hospital patients in dire straits if the due amounts are not been paid up by the Ministry of Health.
He also underlined that there is a large number of patients currently undergoing surgery in the operating rooms of the National Hospital and its patients would be in great danger if a power-down strikes under any circumstances.
It has been reported that officials of the CEB have warned the hospital of power failure for not clearing previous dues.
