An enjoining order has been issued against Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers' Union (CEBEU) Anil Induruwa and Joint Secretary Dhammika Wimalaratne by the Colombo District Court today barring the Union from engaging in any trade union activity for the next 14 days from today onwards.
The CEBEU had previously warned that a trade union action would begin at midnight yesterday, resulting in a blackout beginning at 8 a.m. today.
Following discussions with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa early this morning, the union decided to call off the strike.
Despite the union's partial call-off of the strike, power outages were reported across the country early this morning, particularly in the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kandy districts.
