Ex-Criminal Investigation Department Director Shani Abeysekara and two other suspects who were earlier arrested over alleged fabrication of evidence further remanded till April 21 by Gamphaga Magistrate Court today.
Gampaha Chief Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne also further remanded two other suspects namely: Sub Inspector Rohana Mendis of the Embilipitiya Police and retired Sub Inspector Navaratne Premathilaka.
The former CID Chief is remanded for allegedly fabricating evidence in the case against former Deputy Inspector General Vass Gunawardena.
Former DIG Vass Gunawardena, his son and four other suspects were found guilty of the abduction and killing of businessman Mohamed Shiyam and sentenced to death by a trial-at-bar at the Colombo High Court in 2015.
Last year SSP Abeysekera was interdicted on charges of engaging in telephone conversations that brought disrepute to the Police Service.
