Female Grama Sevakas have decided to restrict their services by making themselves available for duty only during normal working hours on the grounds that it was insecure to work late at night.
The announcement has been made by the President of the Colombo district Grama Sevaka Association Shamala Wathsala.
She said that accordingly they will provide their services only during 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 P.m though their services are supposed to be a 24 hour service.
She said that also some of the offices located in insecure locations will be closed and shifted to safer locations.
Ms Wathsala said of the 14,000 Grama Sevakas in the country, 62 per cent are female.
The decision has been taken following the sexual assault of a female doctor at Anuradhapura.
