Five arrested with elephant pearls worth Rs 6.5 million

Officers from the Ambalantota Special Task Force (STF) camp arrested five suspects in Hambantota last evening (13) for attempting to sell four elephant pearls (Gajamuthu) valued at about Rs 6.5 million.

The suspects were taken into custody in a raid that was conducted based on a tip-off given to intelligence officers of the Hambantota Naval Base.

The arrested individuals, four males and a female, are residents of Wellawaya, Koslanda, Athiliwewa and Monaragala. The suspects and the elephant pearls have been handed over to the Hambantota Wildlife Range Office for further investigations.
