The customs said that they have detected five vehicles, foreign liquor and vehicle lubricants illegally smuggled into the country today. The Customs Media Spokesman as well as Deputy Director of Customs, Sudattha Silva said that the five vehicles smuggled into the country are of two separate detections at the same terminal. He elaborated that they had made the detection according to information received. Mr Silva explained that in one detection they found a Mercedes Benz, Audi and Fiat car. The three cars were consigned from United Kingdom investigations revealed. In a separate incident two BMW cars, foreign liquor as well as vehicle lubricants were detected. He explained that they are currently valuing the worth of the items detected. Mr Silva added that they estimate that the worth of the detected items could be worth over Rs 1.5 billion. “We are currently investigating the matter, after investigations we would confiscate vehicles and impose penalties against the smugglers” he added.
