A former soldier has been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from the Embilipitiya area with a stock of firearms and sharp weapons.
A group of officers from the STF operations unit had conducted a raid last evening (4) at the Kotalawala Junction area following a tip-off. The suspect was taken into custody along with an AK-47 assault rifle and an AK-47 magazine, a pistol, 25 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition along with a magazine, two swords and a knife.
The suspect is a 59-year-old retired soldier from Embilipitiya. Further investigations have revealed that the suspect is an associate of an organised criminal and drug trafficker, Police Media Unit said. Embilipitiya Police are investigating.
