Senior politician A.H.M. Fowzie has been appointed as a Member of Parliament by the Elections Commission.
Issuing a gazette extraordinary, the Commission said Mr. Fowzie has been declared elected as a Member of Parliament for the Electoral District No-1 Colombo to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former MP Mujibur Rahman.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
