“This year there are 10, 863 (3.49%) students who have obtained 9 ‘A’ s. Also as per a circular for the Ministry of Education, even a student who has received five passes and has failed in Mathematics can participate in the G.C.E. A/L examination,” Mr. Dharmasena said.
According to the stats released by the Department of Examination, in the year 2019, 225,539 students (73.84%) and in the year 2020, 236,015 students (76.59%) have qualified for the G.C.E A/L examination.
He advised the student to study what is happening in the modern world and choose suitable subjects to get a job instead of choosing subjects as a trend.
“Getting into public sector jobs will also be a more difficult task in future. Therefore, I request the students to choose subjects wisely that are suitable for jobs in the private sector as well. Especially technology and English language based subjects,” he said.
He further explained that the Examination Department is not planning to release the results of top ten students who managed to perform well at the G.C.E. O/L examination this time.
He said that there is no competition in this general exam and there is no need to identify the top ten students. “This is a general subject based exam, which is an opening for higher studies. We all have to understand that fact,” Mr. Dharmasena concluded.
