Acting Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva will assume duties as the new Chief of Defence Staff with effect from tomorrow (June 1).

The official letter in the regard was handed over by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to General Shavendra Silva at the President's House, Colombo, today (31), the President's Media Division (PMD) said.

Former Army Commander and Acting Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff following the relinquishment of his office as the Army Commander today (31).
