The Government has decided to increase the amount provided for paddy purchasing from Rs. 5 billion to Rs. 10 billion for the Maha season 2022/23.
According to statistics of the Department of Agriculture and Department of Agricultural Development, an excess of paddy is expected in the Maha season of 2022/2023 and thereby an involvement of the Government is required.
In addition, two million families would be provided 10kg of rice per family for a period of two months with the participation of small and medium size mill owners by District Secretariats and Provincial Secretariats.
The request for the allocation of Rs. 10 billion was reported by the Sunday Times last week.
