The Sri Lankan Government on a policy to discourage casinos and betting has increased its annual taxes, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said today.
He said accordingly the annual taxes on Casinos has been increased from Rs 200 million to 500 million equalvent to 150 per cent rise since August.
The annual taxes on Betting Centers (Live) has been increased from Rs.600,000 to Rs. One million & Turnover tax increased to 15 per cent also has been increased from August.
The tax on sub agents of betting (live) has been raised from Rs four million to Rs five million.
For other betting centres which do not operate live the annual tax has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000.
State Minister Siyambalapitiya said that already a 75 per cent tax on alcohol is imposed and 85 per cent on tobacco.
