The Government will be conducting background checks on foreign Maulavis who are coming to the country to preach, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara stated.
He said any Maulavi who is found to be preaching extremism will be denied entry to the country.
Meanwhile, the Government will also move ahead with plans to ban Madrasas that don't teach local school syllabus, the Minister added.
Additionally, the Government will discuss with Muslim religious leaders about the future of a number of mosques set up by Zaharan Hashim, ringleader of the Easter Sunday attackers. "We suspect some of these mosques are still centres of extremism. We will discuss the matter with Muslim religious leaders," he added.
