A Grama Niladhari Officer in the Heerassagala area of Kandy has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over bribery charges.
This follows a complaint lodged by a woman with the Bribery Commission regarding the incident in which a Grama Niladhari officer requested a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from her in order to settle a land dispute.
The suspect was apprehended by the Bribery Commission officers on June 25 while attempting to obtain the bribe from the concerned woman.
The Grama Niladhari officer has been remanded until June 29.
