The seventy two health trade unions involved in the island wide strike have decided to continue their strike action until authorities provide a positive response.
The Government Medical Laboratory Technologists head, Ravi Kumudesh said that they were compelled to carry on the island wide strike from today morning to express displeasure with the government's decision to increase the Disturbance, Availability, and Transport (DAT) allowance for doctors.
He added that they would continue the until strike tomorrow and thereafter decide whether to continue strike further or call off their action after holding a meeting with health trade unions involved.
The health worker unions also lay claim to the allowance and demanded that they too need to be given the same allowance.
The strike caused inconvenience to the general public as health services were hampered by the strike.
However the army, navy and air force were deployed to assist the patients who are facing inconvenience due to the strike action.
The President of the public health inspectors union, Upul Rohana said that they were forced to continue the strike as the government did not provide a positive response.
