A ‘caution’ level heat index advisory has been issued to Northern, Eastern, North Central provinces as well as Monaragala district.
Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department, the advisory said those residing in the above areas will feel a temperature of 39-45 degrees.
“Fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and activity. Continuing activity could result in heat cramps,” the advisory said.
The public is requested to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities, wear light-wear, light-coloured clothing and check up on the elderly and the sick.
