News

Unveiling a significant milestone in the logistics sector of Sri Lanka, the heaviest equipment transport operation in the history of the Island took place on 14th, 15th and 16th of January.

The 350 MW Liquefied Natural Gas Power Plant Project in Wattala - Kerawalapitiya is evolving as a Silver Lining of the Power Industry in the current context of Sri Lanka, which is developed by Sobadhanavi Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Lakdhanavi Limited.

As far as weight goes, two major equipment of the power plant, namely The Gas Turbine weighing 312 Tons, and the generator weighing 317 Tons are the heaviest load ever moved in the country. They were transported from Colombo Harbor to Kerawalapitya site by Lakdhanavi, the first and largest Power Plant Developers in Sri Lanka.

Lakdhanavi Limited is responsible for the development, engineering design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of the new power plant.

This logistics operation combined of both marine and road segments. Both the turbine and generator were received and unloaded to a barge at the Unity Container Terminal of Port of Colombo and was tow by a tug to the outfall of Hamilton canal via Kelani River entering the river at its estuary.

The barge took berth at a temporary jetty especially constructed for the project purposes at the Hamilton Canal. Parallel to this operation, on request of the fishermen of the area, the Company has taken steps to increase the draft of Hamilton canal beyond the temporary jetty upto Dikovita fishery harbour to facilitate the easy movement of fishing boats as a CSR project. This has been a dire need for over 30 years.

The heavy equipment were rolled off from the barge one at a time by a 21 multi axle trailer to the Hendala- Hunupitiya road and then to the power plant site at Kerawalapitiya.

The Lakdhanavi Limited, which is a subsidiary of LTL Holdings Group, is an industry leader synonymous for the construction of qualitative and feasible power plants since 1996 has carried out similar operations during the construction of Heladhanavi power plant, Yugadanavi power plant and multiple power plant developments at Bangladesh.
