Due to the congestion in prisons Minister of Justice, Prison Activities and Constitutional Reforms Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has proposed a solution to keep suspects under house arrest.
The proposal has granted approval.
A committee chaired by a Supreme Court judge was appointed to provide appropriate recommendations to introduce legal provisions.
Minister Rajapakshe is to instruct Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft bill based on the report furnished by the said officers’ committee.
