Some 175 persons from about 40 families along Ala Iwura Road in Buthgamuwa, Rajagiriya have been severely affected by flooding following torrential rains that were experienced last night.
Authorities have set up a temporary shelter for those affected at Hewavitharana Maha Vidyalaya in Rajagiriya. However, only about seven families have moved into the shelter thus far, with others choosing to remain in their flooded neighbourhood hoping for the floodwaters to recede.
Our photographer captured these scenes from the area this morning.
