Apart from that air breathing turtles as well as mammals such as dolphins too are unable to surface for air if entrapped when caught to a bottom trawling net, apart from that the flippers of sea turtles and flukes and flippers of dolphins too get injured when tanged into nets.  

DWC stated they have made observations that marine life such as fish, marine reptiles and mammals are dying due to illegal fishing practices such as bottom trawling. Apart from turtles dolphins get injured and killed due to getting caught in nets. Some die due to grievous injuries while others remain crippled.

 According to them, they had observed over 10 carcasses of turtles washed away to the western shores of the country within a period of a week. Apart from that, The DWC's veterinary surgeons who carried out post mortem inquiries had found out that most turtles had died of breathing difficulties as well as broken flippers. They also added that most turtle carcasses were in a badly rotten state when they  carried out post mortem inquiry.
