Another stock of 20 railway coaches purchased through an Indian Line of Credit were unloaded today (20) at the Colombo Port.
The railway coaches are part of an agreement signed before the COVID-19 pandemic to purchase 160 railway coaches from India.
The coaches are being manufactured by Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, Sri Lanka Railways Deputy Superintendent (Procurement) Asela Pathirathna said.
With the arrival of these 20 coaches, a total of 60 coaches purchased under the agreement have been delivered so far, while 100 are still to be delivered, he further said.
The coaches will be hooked onto an engine and transported to the Maligawatta Railway Yard.
The coaches are to be used in trains plying the low country and coastal lines.
