Villagers at Inginiyagama, a rural village in Anuradhapura district were taken by surprise as they were given dry rations packs worth Rs.20,000 each pack.
The donation was made by Ven. Welitara Amarananda Thera of the Ahungalle Sri Pulithanaramaya. The village, battered by frequent wild elephant attacks, do not have electricity facilities or a proper road system.
The Buddhist monk has promised to resolve the drinking water issue of the villagers, which has been ignored by the State.
The villagers were beaming in joy after being served an afternoon meal.
