An Indian woman trying to use a passport which has been declared as a lost travel document and trying to travel to Canada has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Police said.
The 24 year old woman from Gujarat had arrived on Saturday from Mumbai and tried to take another flight to Canada.
However, Immigration officials checking her passport found that her passport was already listed in the lost travel document list.
Investigations had revealed that another woman in Gujarat with similar features had obtained a valid visa to travel to Canada, however her passport had been misplaced.
The woman’s father and another person who had dropped her at the airport were escaping and they were also arrested over the incident.
On the inspection of a bag available with the father they had found the actual passport of the woman.
The other person arrested was a person was involved in trafficking persons to Canada.
The three of them were deported to India.
